The Indian Rupee just got it’s official symbol on July 15th. It was previously distinguished by the abbreviation ’Rs.’ but was recently graduated to symbol-status because of the growing influence of the Indian economy. The design was created by IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) post-graduate Uday kumar.
“It is a perfect blend of Indian and Roman letters — capital ‘R’ and Devanagri ‘Ra’ which represents rupaiah, to appeal to international and Indian audiences”
Personally, I think it’s really a beautiful and thoughtfully-designed symbol.
